CHW Ag TEST
One Step Canine Heartworm Antigen Test
Canine heartworm primarily resides in the pulmonary arteries of dogs and migrates to the heart where it grows up to 30cm in length. It is caused by a blood-borne parasite known as Dirofilaria immitis. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes and with a large invasion, they can also appear in the right ventricle. Mosquitoes feeding on the infected host ingest the microfilaria which then migrates within the mosquito and can then be spread to other dogs. Canine Heartworm has a high mortality rate so it should be diagnosed and treated. The most common symptoms include fever, lethargy, tonsillitis, abdominal distension, exercise intolerance, and loss of appetite.
